Fishs Eddy
Hi. My name is Siri and I'm a dish girl.

This is the first time I'm admitting this fact about myself in my newly-formed Blog, but if you stick with me long enough, you will discover just how true this statement is. I have absolutely zero explanation for where this fascination originated for me. It's just been this way since I was a wee teen filling my Lane Cedar "hope chest' with plates and glasses that caught my fancy.

In long-ago days, Oneida International Silver ran magazine ads where you could send them .50¢ and in return, they would mail you a real teaspoon to serve as a sample of their silver and flatware patterns. Needless to say, opportunity not to be missed, I started my post-college life with about 20 unmatching silver spoons!
A walk through the Louvre, an elevator up the Eiffel Tower and a gruelling climb up the stairs to the Arc De Triomphe. Is this the Paris you have planned to…
Imagine ME, then, walking into Fishs Eddy in NYC.....wooohooo...motherload! What's SO cool is this store has a total vintage vibe. Thirty years ago, the founders came upon an old barn filled with vintage plates, cups, bowls, platters, cups and saucers which had been in a fire and bought the. lot of them. Scrubbing soot off it all, after returning home, they effectively discovered their retail niche. Absolutely unique collections of tableware with a whole lotta sass. Not the stuff you'll find at the local department store.
My favorites? The reborn work of Cincinnati-based Modernist Artist, Charley Harper. I instantly fell in love with every piece they sold here. I came home with the cottontail in the middle above here. Had my suitcase room, I could easily have come home with it all.
I was rolling in the aisles thinking about throwing a dinner party with the Fishs Eddy Original "Intervention" Ware. Every plate I picked up I knew JUST who I'd want to give it to. Big Mistake. Portion Control (super small bread plate). You are not perky, you're obnoxious. Small bites, remember to breathe. You're a mess. Feed some of it to the dog. What exactly are you trying to make. And on, and on and on. 🤣
All the original dishware is super fun, even just to walk around the store and laugh. Then tucked in several corners are piles of vintage dishes at crazy good prices that make you feel like you stumbled upon the best tag sale ever. Be careful, you might lose yourself pouring over the 'finds'.
You're bound to find great souvenirs to bring home for family and friends if you're just visiting, but even if you're not looking for something to buy, go in for the aesthetics and a little levity.
