Chocolat by Adam Turoni
The nice lady at the cash register totally tricked me! After graciously introducing herself, she showed me over to the cabinets on each side of the "Dining Room" (as they call their flagship shop). Opening the wood and glass display doors she revealed shelves and shelves filled with finely crafted truffles. Above each neat little row was a mouth-watering description of the irresistible insides.
A walk through the Louvre, an elevator up the Eiffel Tower and a gruelling climb up the stairs to the Arc De Triomphe. Is this the Paris you have planned to…
Atop the shelves is a short stack of fancy trays (silver at this location. reclaimed wood and brass at the other) to which I am to help myself. Pile the tray as high as I like she says using the tongs inside. Surely a recipe for calorie-disaster, that is. Which is why it is a such a smart, sneaky trick! It worked. I picked my way through the day's selections, carefully reading each poetic description plaque.
Flavors include: Roasted Fig and Cognac Truffle, Poached Pear and Spiced Cream, Savannah Bee Honey Filled Chocolate Bars, Golden Roman Coins, Raspberry Chambord, Habanero Caramel Truffles, Orange and Grand Marnier, Peanut Butter Cups and more depending upon what is made each day.
Want to belong to the best Book Club you will ever join? On checking out, there was this beguiling sign and handsome display, so I asked. If you go home from this trip and find yourself craving more, you can join the club! Your subscription entitles you to 10- 14- or 24- piece vintage inspired 'book' boxes filled with a variety of their signature truffles delivered right to your door. ($45, $65 and $90 respectively plus $15 delivery fee). I knew immediately which of my book- and chocolate-loving friends is going to get this gift for Christmas!
The chocolate is made right here in full view. Which is fun to watch. Oh...and lest you think truffles are the only offering, they are not. We also came home with some nice white chocolate bars. It's easier to carry them home for a great souvenir gift for whoever couldn't make the trip with you.
I walked out with 5 truffles on my first visit to The Dining Room location. The next day I took home 8 from The Chocolate Library location. I even recognized the tricky lady behind the register who said "the addiction takes hold quickly, doesn't it?" She knew what she was doing and that's just fine with me. Truffles are priced on average $2.75 each.
